New Challenges Ahead
August 2nd
As I have a two weeks left at my job I have been doing a lot of thinking lately. My life is about to change again, I'm going to be working some place else, I might be living some place else, taking direction from new people, working with new designers, meeting new people, and starting from scratch some place new. My thoughts on this... I am beyond ready and excited.
Starting somewhere new is always a scary thing. The thought of meeting all new people; hoping you have things in common. The thought of being in a new work environment; working on a different computer. Adjusting to a new time schedule, new clients, new time lines, etc.
For the past six months I have spent a lot of it producing things and doing minimal creative work; resizing advertisements to new sizes, high-resing things, cutting things out, photo research, etc. I have only been able to be truly creative a few times, and while I understand this alright for most people it is not for me. It has led me to never feel alive in my job. I feel like a drone pumping out part after part according to the specs. I want to be challenged, I want to have a fire lit under me every week, everyday if possible.
Receiving new challenges is exciting; even when at times the task seems impossible, the problem unsolvable. Not being able to solve the problem, making the mistake, is what helps us grow. If I make a mistake, if I am unable to solve the design problem, then I can learn and understand why. I can push myself to find new ways to be creative. The art of the mistake is the art of growing. You must make mistakes to learn from them.
I'm ready to make mistakes and learn somewhere new. There will be challenges staring me in the face, and I'll be there staring right back.

Well my time here at Ron Foth is almost up; in other words I am going to be unemployed in 4 weeks. So I am definitely aggressively looking for my next opportunity. If anyone hears of anything then please shoot me an email, randy@superrandy.com. I would greatly appreciate it.

I Gave a Speech!
June 4th
Hello everyone! I had an interesting night last night and wanted to update the site with it. I was asked to speak at my alma mater, Sinclair Community College, for their graduating students design portfolio show. I had to put together a 20 minute speech about my life as a designer. It went well and was a lot of fun.
Before this I had never given a speech like this, so I didn't quite know what to expect in the way of audience reaction. But students and teachers seemed quite pleased with it, and I heard from numerous people that it was interesting and "not boring" so that's definitely a plus.
Afterward I had to evaluate three student portfolios. They were all different from one another, and all interesting. I then got to walk around and look at the rest of the students work. A lot of the students have some good work in their portfolios; I saw a ton of great illustrations. It seemed like the better design students had 4-5 pieces that were really nice, but the rest of their portfolio needed some fleshing out. But I personally think that's how most student portfolios are going to be. Once they start doing some freelance and getting some professional work they will really have some strong portfolios.
I might update this later with some of their sites, so everyone can see their work.
BTW... I am working on getting the blog setup. I have been super busy lately so I haven't had as much free time. But look for that to be done sometime in the near future.

Welcome!
May 17th
Hello everyone! Welcome to my new website! I have moved over from squarespace to cargocollective. Right now the blog is not up but it will be soon. Cargo doesnt have a built-in blog, so I will be creating a subdomain, most like "blog.superrandy" and setting up a simple wordpress blog. Attempting to replicate the look as much as possible. This way everyone can still subscribe to my RSS.
This should be happening within the next 2 weeks. So just keep checking back here for updates on the blog.
As far as the rest of the site, I am still tweaking. Stuff still needs uploaded, images need edited, tags added, etc.
